The Rayex LEG-5 is a miniature electromechanical 1-channel relay (SPDT), designed for direct soldering onto Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). It operates with a 5V DC Trigger Voltage and features contacts capable of handling a maximum load of 10A at 120V AC or 10A at 24V DC. As a bare component (not a module), it does not have an optocoupler and requires a driving circuit (e.g., a transistor) to be controlled by microcontrollers. It is the perfect choice for integration into custom automation and Smart Home boards.

Reliable Device Control in a Miniature Size

The LEG-5 relay by Rayex Electronics safely bridges low-voltage control circuits with higher-demand devices. Thanks to its miniature footprint, it is the ultimate jellybean part for electronics designers and makers building their own printed circuit boards (PCBs).

  • SPDT Contacts (Single Pole Double Throw): Provides wiring flexibility by offering both NO and NC contacts in the same 5-pin component.
  • Low Coil Power Consumption: With a coil resistance of 70Ω and consumption of just 360mW, it is energy-efficient for continuous operation.
  • Compact Design: Dimensions of only 19.5 x 15.8 x 15mm, making it ideal for space-constrained projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between NO and NC contacts?
An SPDT relay has a Common (COM) terminal. The NO (Normally Open) contact allows current to pass to the load ONLY when the relay is triggered (energized with 5V). The NC (Normally Closed) contact allows current to pass continuously and interrupts it when the relay is triggered.

Can I connect it directly to an Arduino 5V output pin?
No. Since this is a bare relay and not a relay module, the coil draws about 72mA, which exceeds the safe limit of an Arduino's digital output pins (usually 20-40mA). You will need a simple transistor (e.g., 2N2222) and a flyback diode to safely drive the coil.

Warning: Handling mains voltages (AC) is dangerous and can be fatal. Connections must be made with the equipment unplugged, and it is highly recommended that they be performed by a licensed/qualified electrician. Ensure your PCB traces are thick enough to handle 10A safely.
