The Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040 is a thumb-sized development board (21 x 17.8 x 3.5 mm) built around the Raspberry Pi RP2040 dual-core ARM Cortex-M0+ running at up to 133 MHz, with 264 KB SRAM and 2 MB flash. It offers 11 digital and 4 analog I/O, USB Type-C, and supports Arduino, MicroPython and CircuitPython.

A thumb-sized RP2040 board with USB Type-C for embedded projects

The XIAO RP2040 condenses the Raspberry Pi Pico's microcontroller into a 21 x 17.8 mm footprint with a surface-mount design. It is the board to reach for when space is tight but full RP2040 processing power is still required.

  • RP2040 microcontroller with a dual-core ARM Cortex-M0+ up to 133 MHz and a flexible clock.
  • 264 KB SRAM and 2 MB onboard flash.
  • 14 GPIO in total: 11 digital I/O, 4 analog inputs and 11 PWM outputs.
  • I2C, UART and SPI interfaces plus SWD pads for debugging.
  • 21 x 17.8 x 3.5 mm with USB Type-C, a programmable RGB LED and Reset and Boot buttons.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it differ from the Raspberry Pi Pico?
The microcontroller is the same RP2040. The XIAO is far smaller (21 x 17.8 mm against 51 x 21 mm), uses USB Type-C instead of micro-USB and has a surface-mount design, with fewer pins broken out.

Which languages can it be programmed in?
It supports Arduino (C/C++), MicroPython and CircuitPython. The RP2040 can also be programmed in C, Rust and Go through the official SDK.

How is it powered?
Over the USB Type-C port or from the 5V/VIN pin, since the board has an onboard DC-DC converter. Logic runs at 3.3 V, so take care when connecting 5 V sensors.
