LEGO Education recently announced a significant change to its product portfolio, directly affecting schools, educators, and parents involved in educational robotics.

Specifically, they announced the retirement of the highly popular LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential and LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime sets.

At antoniadis.com.cy, as your trusted partner in educational technology, we want to fully inform you about what this means, the timelines involved, and why there is no cause for concern.

Key Timelines

According to the official announcement from LEGO Education, the schedule is as follows:

  • June 30, 2026: This is the official "Retirement Date." After this date, LEGO will cease the sale of SPIKE Prime and Essential products.
  • June 30, 2031: Software Support will continue for 5 more years. This means the App will continue to receive updates and bug fixes, ensuring seamless operation on your devices.

What does this mean for the equipment you already own?

If you have already purchased SPIKE kits for your school or home, there is no need to worry.

  1. Continuous Operation: Your equipment remains fully functional and relevant. The STEAM educational value remains intact.
  2. Software Support: As mentioned, the app will be supported until the summer of 2031, giving you plenty of usage time.
  3. Competitions: For those participating in competitions like FIRST® LEGO® League, SPIKE sets will be allowed until the 2027-2028 season.

Why buy now?

As we approach the retirement date (June 2026), global stocks will begin to deplete.

If you were planning to equip your classroom, expand your lab, or buy an educational robotics gift, now is the right time.

  • Complete your equipment: Ensure you have enough Hubs, motors, and sensors for the coming years.
  • Expansion Sets: If you have the core set, the Expansion Set is an excellent addition that will soon be hard to find.
