Polyvine Varnishes Guide: The Ultimate Selection & Use Guide
Finish Your Projects with the Right Polyvine Varnish
Every amateur or professional crafter knows that the success of a project lies in the details of the finish. Protecting your work is just as important as creating it. This is where Polyvine, a brand synonymous with premium quality specialized varnishes, provides the solution. Their products are designed for different surfaces, wear conditions, and aesthetic results.
In this guide, we will analyze the differences between the most popular Polyvine varnishes, see exactly where each is recommended, and answer the most common question: When should we use Dead Flat, Satin, or Gloss?

Dead Flat, Satin, or Gloss?
Choosing a finish is not just about aesthetics, but also about practicality and durability.
- Dead Flat: Offers a completely invisible finish that does not reflect light. It is ideal for maintaining the natural look of wood or when using chalk paints, preserving their velvety texture. It excellently hides surface imperfections.
- Satin: The golden mean. It offers a soft, subtle sheen and is more resistant to stains and knocks than the dead flat finish. Ideal for everyday furniture, doors, and cabinets.
- Gloss: Highly reflective, providing a shiny result that highlights the intensity of colors. It is the most durable of the three, very easy to clean, and suitable for heavy-use surfaces.

Discovering the Polyvine Range: Which one to choose?
1. Decorators Varnish: The Decorators' Choice
This is a clear water-based acrylic varnish that utilizes nanotechnology. It is the company's most popular product for general decorative use and crafts. It offers protection against finger marks, stains, and fading thanks to its UV filters.
It is the ultimate choice for sealing painted surfaces (e.g., chalk paints or plastic wall paints), wallpaper (not vinyl), plaster, fabric, furniture, and stencils. It can also be used externally, but not directly on bare exterior wood.

2. Exterior Extreme Varnish: The Ultimate Outdoor Shield
A highly durable polyurethane varnish, formulated exclusively for exterior use. When your project is intended for the garden or balcony, you need industrial-grade protection. It is waterproof, chemical resistant, and features enhanced UV filters. Its major advantage is that it contains biocides to protect against mold, fungi, and algae, while remaining flexible so it won't peel or crack.
Recommended for: Exterior wood, pergolas, stone, slate, brick, cement, garden furniture, and outdoor worktops that remain permanently exposed to the elements.

3. Interior Extreme Varnish: Heavy Duty Durability
The "sibling" of Exterior, but tailored exclusively for indoor use. It is also a polyurethane varnish offering industrial-grade hardness, drying and fully curing in 16 hours. It is the absolute varnish for areas that endure heavy wear, as it resists liquids, alcohol, high friction, stains, and heat.
Ideal for: Wooden kitchen worktops (it is food safe), bars, wooden floors, stairs, cement, and stone in domestic or commercial spaces.

4. Multi-Surface & Crystal Clear Lacquer: The Primer-Varnish
This is a hard, crystal-clear lacquer/varnish that dries very quickly (in just 20 minutes). Its main feature is that it "grips" excellently to almost any difficult, non-porous surface. It can even be used as a primer and sands very easily to give a perfectly smooth finish.
Choose it for: Ceramics, glass, metal, plastic, laminate, melamine, tiles, wood, and MDF (for interior and exterior use).

5. Wax Finish Varnish: Wax Look, Varnish Protection
A traditional varnish that combines the velvety, silky texture of wax with the durability of a varnish. It maintains the natural look of the wood without looking "plasticized". If you want the touch of a vintage or rustic piece of furniture to be warm as if it has been hand-waxed, but without the hassle of continuous maintenance (as it resists water and stains), this is the solution.
Ideal for: Furniture upcycling, interior wood, stairs, bookcases, doors, and wooden paneling.
